Every product deserves a good storyteller.

Skald is built by two people who got tired of watching great product ideas get lost between the tools meant to carry them. So we built one that keeps the story straight — from idea to live code.

Why “Skald”?

The keeper of the story

In Old Norse society a skald was a court poet — the bard who held the saga in memory and carried it faithfully from one hall to the next. Kings rose and fell, but the skald kept the story intact, so nothing important was lost in the retelling.

That's the job we wanted software to do for product teams. Strategy gets decided in one room, requirements in another, the build somewhere else entirely — and the why evaporates between them.

Skald is the keeper of your product's story. It carries the context — the intent, the rules, the decisions — faithfully from idea all the way to the engineer and the AI agent who build it.

Our story

Why we built it

We met building products the hard way — a backlog tool that didn't know the strategy, a wiki nobody read, and design files three versions behind. Every handoff meant re-explaining the same context, and every AI coding tool we tried was only as good as the half-written ticket we fed it.

The tools weren't the problem on their own. The problem was that none of them held an opinion about how good products actually get made. They handed us blank canvases and wished us luck.

So we built Skald: an opinionated workspace shaped around what teams and AI agents need to ship the right thing — proven methods like OKRs, BDD and Domain-Driven Design baked into one connected flow, with AI embedded at every step instead of bolted on at the end.

We're a small team, and we like it that way. We'd rather have a sharp opinion and a tool we'd use ourselves than be everything to everyone.

[Placeholder bio] A product manager turned founder who has spent years wrangling roadmaps across engineering, design and leadership — and never found a tool that kept everyone honest about the why.

Looks after product, design and the opinionated bits of how Skald works. Believes structure beats chaos every time.

[Placeholder bio] An engineer who has shipped a lot of software and grown allergic to ambiguous specs. Drawn to Skald by the idea of giving AI agents the context they actually need to build well.

Owns the platform, the AI layer and the MCP integrations. Thinks the best handoff is the one nobody has to clarify twice.

What we believe

Opinions we build on

Opinionated by design

A blank canvas is a tax on every team. We bake proven methods in, so the right way is the easy way.

Context should travel

Intent, rules and decisions should follow the work — never get re-explained at every handoff.

AI assists, you decide

AI is in every step to surface gaps and draft the boring parts. The judgment stays yours.
